LA II
LA II is an American artist who spent most of his career in the shadow. Born in the Lower East-Side, New-York, he worked in collaboration with Keith Haring for six years, painting murals and sculptures. Some of their four-handed works are still available on the market. Born under the name of Angel Ortiz, the artist was, when Keith Haring first met him, only 13, but was already painting the walls of New York with virtuosity. Completely self-taught, the young man definitely participated in the American graffiti artists? movement. He even taught Keith Haring to fill up the blanks on his canvases, allowing his painting to reach another level (according to Richard Hambleton, friend of Keith Haring). Nevertheless, LA II his still called the ?silent partner? of Keith Haring. Today, the artist asks for more credit and recognition for his art, and tries to be known all around the world. Currently, 3 of his paintings are exhibited at the Pepperdine University, and at the Weisman Museum ? Bel Air. LA II showed his work in major museums in the USA, such as the Whitney Museum, New York. Some works of LA II and Keith Haring recently had an exhibition at Jeffrey Deitch, New York City, the exhibition is currently travelling all around the world.
